Do you know how to soften butter for spreading? Spreading cold butter on a bagel in the morning or any time of the day can be a struggle. We have some tips to avoid ripping your muffin or having clumps of butter on your toast. Learn how to soften butter for spreading with these four methods:
How to Soften Butter for Spreading
Method #1: microwave
To soften butter in the microwave, you only need to have it in there for a few seconds, especially if you're softening butter in a 3.5 oz Epicurean Butter container. To avoid over-melting and making a buttery mess in the microwave, put a small glass of water in the microwave and cover the container of butter with a paper towel.
Method #2: warm knife
Run a knife under hot water or hold it over the stove to heat it. Just be careful not to burn your hand - we've been there. It’s always smart to use a potholder when using the warm knife method.
Method #3: warm oven
This one is easy if you’re already cooking something in the oven. Just set a scoop of butter in a small bowl on top of the stovetop until you are ready to spread.
Method #4: room temperature
Remember the butter dishes your grandmother would keep on the dining room table? Well, believe it or not, people still do that. Although, designs have improved, with fun colors, patterns, and all the cooking quotes you can imagine.
You could just leave your Epicurean Butter container on the counter, but why would you when there is fun pottery to work with? Just type in "butter dish" on Google and you'll find one you love.
Now that you know how to soften butter for spreading, it's time to test these methods in the kitchen.
